Moses prayed to God,
“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.” Exod. 33:13.
King David also prayed, “Teach me, O Lord, Your ways, that l might walk in your truth.” Psalm 86:11
“Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” Psalm 25: 4-5.
How can we know God’s ways?
To know God’s ways we must have the desire to know Him intimately, to know the truth and to walk in His paths.
The person who wants to know God intimately and walk in His paths must be:
*A man of the Word.
The Bible is God’s word, His mind, His thoughts, and His voice in print. We must be men/women of the word. When we study and meditate in His Word the Spirit of God, the author of the Word will teach us (1John 2: 20, 27), and we will come to know God’s mind and His ways – what He loves, what He hates, what grieves Him, what gladdens His heart, what He requires of us, what we should do, how we should walk and live etc. If we don’t diligently study the scriptures we cannot know His mind and His ways. ( Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119: 11-16).
*A man of prayer.
By this I do not refer to the number of hours we spend in prayer each day but to someone who walks with God, who makes time to wait upon Him and who converses or commune with Him always ( Col. 4:2).
*A man who desires to know and walk in the truth.
Such a person must have the desire to know the truth, accept it and walk in it at all cost – even the hard truths of God’s Word. God will not teach someone who is not ready to walk in the light or truth he receives His ways. (Psalm 25:5).
*A man with a humble and teachable Spirit.
Psalm 25:9 says, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”
“The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way.” – Psalm 25:9.
God will only teach the person who is humble His way. The proud, self-righteous and those who are wise in their own eyes have no seat in the Holy Ghost classroom.
*A man who fears and Reveres the Lord.
“Who is the man that fears the Lord?
Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.” – Psalm 25:12.
*A man ready to learn through God-given experiences.
As we walk with God He also teaches us His ways through experience. He will test us, teach us some lessons, and sometimes show us the true situation of our own hearts by making us go through certain experiences. He may put us in certain situations to teach us to trust Him, walk with Him by faith, learn obedience, patience or some other virtue etc.
“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.’” (Deuteronomy 8:3).
Like Moses and David we should ask God to teach us His ways, His truths and His paths.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, l desire to know and walk in Your light and in Your truth. Teach me Your ways, O Lord, show me Your paths. Guide me with Your wisdom and counsel and help me to walk in Your truths.
God’s promise: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; l will guide you with my eye.” Psalm 32:8
