“And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of ,God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1Cor. 2:1- 5).
O God, give us Christ-centred and Scripture-centred ministers of the gospel, and bring back the days of Your power.
Give us ministers who will come to the pulpit, not because they have oratorial prowess or the persuasive words of human wisdom. Though they may come in human weakness, fear and trembling to declare Your word, it will be in the power and demonstration of the Spirit.
Men who spend time with You and know You intimately, men who are walking with God; men who do not depend on their human performance; men filled with the Spirit, living and walking in the Spirit and everything flows from the life of Your Spirit within them.
Men who desire to know nothing among Your people except Jesus Christ, His crucifixion and resurrection – this alone will be their message. Men who do not follow new and strange doctrines, no matter how popular or who it is promulgating it, and how many have bought into it; but rather, they having been strongly convicted and determined, will stay within the confines of Scriptures, feeding, teaching and encouraging God’s people with God’s word alone.
Oh God, please give us such men. Give us ministers after Your own heart; Shepherds who will feed Your hungry, starving sheep in this last hour.
Lord, raise up shepherds after Your own heart l plea.
And create in the hearts of Your people the hunger and thirst for the simple, pure, true, untainted and unadulterated Gospel of Your Son.
O God, bring Your people back to Your word, give us a revival of Your word.
Give us shepherds after your own heart in our country, Nigeria.
Amen!
