The horrendous wickedness which has engulfed our nation for over a decade is at its peak and keeps escalating. It just seems that we are having more and more wicked people springing up among us. The rate at which wickedness and the wicked are growing is frightening. There is no justice for the oppressed. The wicked go scot- free while the innocent and victims are portrayed as the culprits and are threatened. Many are asking, “can things be as they were before?”
Government
God has given authority to government to execute judgments and to punish the wicked (Romans 13:4). However what we see in our nation today is the opposite. When those in position of authority refuse to punish the wicked, when they go vehemently after a particular group and leave another whose wickedness far surpasses any other – untouched, unpunished then we are in great trouble. May God help us.
The Church
We don’t have a praying church any more. What we have now is (the “ME” church) – a church who prays for personal aggrandizements and blessings. We have no preachers who tell Nigeria her sins and cries out to her to repent. Where are the prophets calling the church and our nation to repentance? All we hear and see are the self-proclaimed prophets who predict different things and tell people that God wants to bless them even in their sins.
Parenting
Parenting is a huge responsibility. Modern day parenting in our nation is very worrisome. The path some of our youths are treading is very scary. So many atrocities that teenagers will never have done or rarely did few years ago are now being perpetrated by today’s teenagers and they proudly flaunt them on the internet – cultism, money rituals etc.
Change?
Many are talking about radical demonstrations, protests, a radical revolution, even warfare etc., to bring about a drastic change in our nation, even some Christians of whom many will dare not even handle a pistol for self-defense not to speak of an Ak47 , because truly speaking many of us are really pacifist/non-resistant at heart.
But what can one man do?
Someone might say:
“but these are big problems, what can one man do?
“What can the righteous do?”
“We can’t do the job of our government for them, they should do their job.”
Drops of water and grains of sand
But you and l can do something. If everyone will start doing one or two little things, each little good deed will amount to something and go a long way. This brings to mind the hymn we sang at elementary school, “Little drops of water, little grains of sand make a mighty ocean.”
1
Pray for the Church of Christ
Let’s pray for the church: that the church will begin to be the light and salt of the earth it is and meant to be. Let’s pray that the church will repent of her compromise, pray for purity and obedience. That God will raise up preachers of righteousness who will call our nation to repentance and intercede for her.
2
Pray for our nation
The sins of our nation is a stench in God’s nostrils and a grief to His heart. Our sins have brought these calamities on us. As a nation we need to repent and amend our ways.
Let’s pray (and if you’ve been praying continue to) pray for our nation: that God will forgive us and in His wrath be merciful. That He will give us God fearing leaders and thereby have good governance. Let’s pray that God will intervene and bring this wickedness – lack of value for human lives to an end in our nation. That the unchecked invasion, and infiltration of our land by the wicked from other countries will be appropriately dealt with by our leaders. That the wicked in places of authority be divinely removed and replaced by God fearing men. Let’s pray that righteousness will engulf our nation, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). Let’s pray for God’s mercy and divine intervention for 2023 and make it a daily prayer.
As followers of Christ, wherever we are, let’s sow seeds of righteousness even though it’s becoming increasingly difficult to live uncompromised lives in our present situation.
Let us as a nation, and individually, change and amend our ways. Let everyone begin to do that which is right and good in the sight of God and man.
3
Pray for our children and sow godly seeds in them
Let’s pray for our children. Let’s start sowing seeds of kindness, love, fear of God, compassion, humility in their lives both at home and schools.
Parents please wake up to your parental responsibility. Academic education is just one of the many trainings you need to give your children. The fear of God, respect and value for human life, humility and kindness, discipline, decency, to mention a few should be of utmost priority in the education and upbringing of our children and it starts from the home. Otherwise the situation of our nation will be far worse in the future than it is now.
The prayer of the righteous
The Bible says “The prayer of the righteous person is powerful in what it can achieve” (James 5:16 CEBA). It didn’t say “righteous people” it says “ the righteous person” – singular. Are you a righteous man/woman/boy or girl? Is Jesus your Lord and Savior? Are you walking with Him in holiness and singleness of heart? Then your prayer will achieve much before God’s throne. Don’t undermine nor underestimate the power of fervent prayer of the righteous and the sowing of righteous seeds.
Someone might say, “these are the signs of the last days.” Very much true, even in these last days the Bible still calls us to pray and to be the light and the salt of the earth till Christ returns. And He who tells us to pray – even for governmental rulers- still hears and answers the prayers of the righteous. He would not tell us to pray if He will not answer such prayers (1Timothy 2:1-4, Proverbs 21:1, Romans 13:1). God still rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He chooses (Daniel 4:25). This is still His world! Christians are called to pray for those in authority. And to sow righteous seeds every where.
Little Things.
1. Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the beauteous land.
2. Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make our earth an Eden,
Like the heav’ns above.
3. Little seeds of mercy
Sown by youthful hands,
Grow to bless the nations
Far in other lands.
4. Glory then for ever
Be to God on high,
Beautiful and loving,
To eternity.
Amen.
